Off W. Conway Rd. at the end of Mc Bride Park is the
Manna Building. About every two weeks, a semi-truck drops off
a load of food.

The food comes from Second Harvest Gleaners Food Bank in Grand
Rapids & a number of area groceries, bakeries & markets. |
Inside is a warehouse to the left where the semi-trucks
are unloaded and boxes upon boxes of groceries are stacked. The Rotary volunteers help with the
unloading process and put the frozen foods in the freezer &
other perishables in the cooler.

From the warehouse, the food is brought to the display
area for unboxing & shelving. Sometimes we do the shelving,
but often it is done by other volunteers. |
|
The
food that is disbursed here is of all varieties of non-perishable
foods (even some frozen) and a few assorted non-food items (aspirin,
etc.). Here you see bags of bread and rolls.
The Manna Project distributes over 1.2 million pounds
of food annually - absolutely free. With weekly distribution,
they distribute to 19 food pantries in Emmet, Cheboygan, Charlevoix
& Antrim counties. Some of the food is picked up directly
there by those in need. |

Kathy Hart is the smiling face that greets you and
directs all the efforts here. She runs the place with great enthusiasm.
She needs the other 100 volunteers that help to make it happen.
So volunteer to help out with this worthwhile work. |
